TL;DR
- Improved energy levels, better sleep, and higher confidence – what’s not to love? 😎😎😎
- Six programs tailored to different people.
- Quick workouts mean better chance of you sticking with it. 💪💪
- 1.2 million Instagram followers, 8.6 million Facebook fans, and 2 million YouTube subscribers! 😲😲😲
- With a goal to transform 20 million bodies within the next five years, will you be one of them? 😍
Whereas personalised fitness and diet regimes used to be exclusively enjoyed by the rich and famous, times have indeed changed and a whole bunch of fitness brands have taken to apps and other technology wizardry to make e-fitness a widespread phenomenon. 🤯
But one notable player in the game is none other than V Shred, an online fitness and supplement brand which touts itself for helping any customer (men and women alike) achieve results – with these “results” being a dream body.
The brand isn’t modest with its lofty goals, and neither is this fan base. They claim to be the “fastest growing fitness, nutrition and supplement brand in the world”, and the numbers are definitely on their side. With 8.6+ million Facebook followers and 1.1 million followers, there must be something to justify V Shred’s catapulting to fame. 🤔
That said, the fact remains that there are tons of e-fitness apps and brands out there, so what exactly sets V Shred apart? We’ll closely examine the origins of this very popular brand, along with their key product offering – all so you can decide if V Shred is actually worth the hype its been generating. 🤷♀️🤷🤷♂️
Where V Shred came from
Who doesn’t love a good origin story? I know we do.
The face of, and brain behind, V Shred is quite unsurprisingly a man named Vince Saint. Vince’s shot to fame was earned by attaining a hulk-like ripped physique, which made him a viral sensation on social media being popularised as the “V Shred guy”. 🏋️♀️🏋️🏋️♂️
In 2015, alongside 3 other co-founders, Vince set out to build a brand to offer fitness and diet solutions for busy people who don’t have much time (and money) to delve into personalised fitness regimes that usually cost a fortune. The motivation behind V Shred is threefold:
- V Shred wanted to be a “trusted advisor” to its customers when it comes to getting in shape, mastering your nutrition, getting expert supplementation advice, and feeling amazing inside and out. They’ve sought to do this by building a product line, support network and world class training team to “make success a given”. 😚
- V Shred wanted to reintroduce fun into fitness and nutrition, so that people adopt it as a lifestyle change, rather than a frustrating journey that many eventually give up on. 😎
- V Shred also observed that the industry was already saturated with workout program for full-time bodybuilders and unrealistic fitness advice that would be unsustainable for regular folks. V Shred wanted to come up with a service that would genuinely stick. 👍
And despite having started the company very humbly with just $1,000, V Shred has grown exponentially and is presently valued in excess of $200 million. 🔥🔥🔥🔥
V Shred boldly claimed on their website that they were “determined to create a fitness movement”, and it’s quite safe to say that they’ve achieved just that.
What V Shred claims to offer
Much of V Shred’s appeal lies in their very bold claims. It’s interesting that what the brand claims to be able to provide its customers isn’t anything particularly new or groundbreaking – but resonates deeply with its followers (as it has for decades).
Fundamentally, the brand sells weight loss, muscle gain, and better nutrition. But how does it do that?
They’ve devised a system based on “minimum effective” dose workouts that they claim creates “profound changes in your body” in the minimum amount of workout time possible, and diet programs that “do not require willpower or starving yourself”. The idea here is to create change with the path of least resistance, on the premise that doing so is likely to be more sustainable in the long run, and thereby create lasting change. 🏃🏃♂️🏃♀️
This is delivered to customers through 2 main product offerings:
- V Shred’s Diet and Training Programs
- V Shred’s Supplements
These 2 products are meant to work hand in hand to help you achieve your fitness and nutrition goals, so we’ll explore both products in the review below.
Why you should trust us?
Our team has spent over 15 hours extensively testing and researching the best wellness products, including V Shred. Our goal is to find the best brands who care about your well-being and help people live better lives. We evaluate beauty products based on their quality, effectiveness and customer support.
We often ask ourselves a simple question: would we buy the product for ourselves and recommend it to our family and friends? This review is reviewed and thoroughly vetted by Zoey Low, our in-house fitness and wellness expert and product tester herself!
How we tested V Shred
The benefits of V Shred were right there in front of me, but no matter how good something is for my body, the exercise has to be fun as well 🤩. Otherwise I won’t keep up with the workouts and I’ll have wasted my money.
So, I started off by taking the free body type quiz to determine the right exercise and diet plan for my body. I was then greeted by Vince Sant, the best selling fitness author and celebrity trainer 🏋️.
He then proceeded to tell me a personal story and three tips on how to ‘fix’ my body type. After the very bleak personal story about a friend who gained weight despite starving herself and exercising every single day, he started talking to us about my body type and the mistakes I’ve been making.
With these in mind, I purchased the Fat Loss Extreme pack. It sounded amazing – weight loss without cardio? 🏃♂️🏃♂️ Yes please! The pack comes with 15 minute exercise sessions, only having to be done three times a week.
It seemed too good to be true, so I was excited to start the program to see what I was in for. The first day I completed the 15 minute HIIT workout – and it was tough 🥱. I was so thankful for the breaks, but they were far too quick for my liking.
I was also following the tailored diet plan, which I did not find restrictive at all. I was able to eat everything that we wanted, just keeping in mind the portion sizes and everything in moderation.
The next day, we did an ab workout which was also difficult and I certainly felt the burn! 🥵 However, it was a nice break from the fast-paced HIIT workout from the day before.
Immediately I found that my energy levels were higher and I was feeling more confident because I proved to myself that I could do the workouts 😁.
Each workout got easier and easier, and I started to even look forward to them. Over the month, I had lost six pounds and could see a noticeable difference in my muscle tone 💪.
I was able to change my body and mentality within just one month with V Shred, and without feeling exhausted after each workout and restricting my diet. What’s more, I didn’t just stop after one month! I’m still going strong with my workouts, and I have even purchased the Toned in 90 Days pack too!
Comparison: V Shred vs. Noom
V Shred is one of the most talked about fitness programs out there, but there are still plenty others to choose from. One of the most loved is Noom, a modern take on traditional weight loss apps. It comes with personal coaches, tracking tools, personal diet plans, and more.
How to tell V Shred and Noom apart? There is one significant difference, which is how weight loss is approached between the two. V Shred focuses more on fitness programs rather than just weight loss 💪, while Noom only focuses on how to form habits to keep the weight off.
V Shred feels more like a fitness program as it is focused on exercises rather than just the diet plan. It takes your personal body type and experience into account before giving you a tailored workout and diet regime.
Noom, on the other hand, only focuses on diet and lifestyle choices that are going to aid weight loss in such a way that it is easy to keep off. Noom digs into the psychology behind eating and why it is so common for people to overeat in an attempt to change the way you think about food 🍏🍊🍓.
Overall, these two approaches to weight loss have had impressive results from their users. If you want to incorporate exercise into your plan as well as diet, V Shred offers it all.
V Shred’s programs
To get the benefits of V Shred’s extensive regime, you need to first subscribe to V Shred University, V Shred’s hallmark monthly membership. While this costs $20 per month, the first month is heavily discounted at only $1.
V Shred University
Subscribing to V Shred University will give you access to a new diet and training plan every month, which is tailored specifically to your body type, health history and lifestyle. In order to generate these customised plans, you’re asked to take a body type quiz which determines a “category” you fall into, and ultimately which plans you’ll be sent on a monthly basis.
We noticed that the body type quiz was fairly generic. The questions posed were:
- What gender are you?
- What is your age range?
- What is your height?
- What is your weight?
- How active are you? (Answer choices were vague – lightly active, moderately active and very active)
- Brief description of your fitness goals (i.e. how much weight to lose, how much muscle you’d like to put on, etc)
To that end, the body type quiz serves mainly to place you within a particular category of body type, rather than identify personalised body characteristics or needs. This means that these plans aren’t necessarily tailored to you in particular, but rather people like you at best. 🤨🤨
Even then, once classified, you’ll be sent monthly training and meal plans to follow to the T. The workout plans change from month to month to avoid boredom, and they’ll all be things you can do either from home, or at the gym.
On top of that, you’ll get access to the V Shred member community where Vince Saint the man himself will answer questions posed to him in his weekly Couch Talk. 🧐
For added support, you’ll also be immersed in the V Shred members-only Facebook group to gain inspiration, pose community questions and share success stories and struggles with other members of the V Shred community. The brand also claims that 97% of its most successful customers attributed this community to being the most valuable piece of the body-transformation puzzle.
In V Shred’s words, the V Shred University serves as your secret accelerator that will “supercharge your results and help you reach your ideal body 10X faster”, and keep it year round.
V Shred workout programs
In addition to accessing the V Shred University and receiving monthly workout and diet plans, the brand also offers a ton of other workout programs, all with specific goals and a ton of successful reviews.
We outline a high level summary of the programs on offer below:
- Move ($47): A program which allows you to rapidly change your body at home without need for any equipment.
- Custom Diet and Training Plan for Him/Her ($149): Diet and training plans catered 100% to the individual needs of the specific customer. These training plans are available in either 8 or 12 week formulas, and are touted as being able to “skyrocket your results.”
- Fat Loss Extreme for Him/Her ($47): This program is specifically for people who’ve tried everything, but haven’t been able to shed the extra pounds. This program isn’t specifically for anyone who wants to lose just 3 to 4 pounds, but for someone looking to drop much more.
- Ripped in 90 Days (For Men) ($47): This program claims to offer a simple and effective way to “get shredded”, with a bold tagline that “the science is so good, you can’t fail” if you follow the instructions.
- Toned in 90 Days (For Women) ($47): This program claims to help its users tone up and take their results to the next level, but without starvation crash diets, carb sacrifice (holy moly phew), and by burning calories around the clock from HIIT workouts.
- Clean Bulk Program ($87): The Clean Bulk program offers several diet strategies and formulae for packing on muscle mass, as well as step-by-step guides to exercising “the right way”.
- Six-Pack Shred ($19.99): This program is directly specifically at helping you achieve those washboard sick-pack abs (just like Vince!) It relies heavily on carb-cycling and dieting, as well as a HIIT guide.
- Big Arms Program ($19.99): To get those massive guns that Dwayne the Rock Johnson (and Vince Saint) sports, this 6-week program aims to bulk up your arms with “classroom-style videos”.
- Recipe Guide ($14.95): A collection of 40+ “healthy, delicious, amazing recipes” put together by the Vince Saint himself. The idea here is to deliver a meal with all the essential nutrients, but with the fewest calories possible.
- The Booty Builder ($34.95): For ladies looking at achieving that perfect booty, but are sick and tired of the type squat and crunch routine.
Each of these programs have generated a ton of traffic and reviews. By clicking into each of the programs’ dedicated feature pages on the brand’s website, you can expect to be greeted by “before and after” pics and body stats, all seemingly proving the programs’ efficacy.
You’ll notice that there’s also a wide range in pricing of the programs, between $14.95 all the way to $149, with the more bespoke programs attracting a steeper price tag. 😱😱😱
However, it remains to be seen how exactly these programs interact with the baseline V Shred University membership. Are they meant to be done in addition to the V Shred University membership, and if so, are they complementary? For example, it’s not clear if the diet plans shared under V Shred University takes into account stacking workouts programs, so we may run dangerously close to the edge of under-consuming and overworking, which isn’t healthy at all. 😒😒😒
V Shred’s supplements
In addition to V Shred’s core offering of diet and workout plans, the brand has generated its own line of supplements, and we’ll feature just 2 supplements from their product line to give you a sampling of what’s available.
Burn Evolved
Burn Evolved is an “all-natural 24-hour fat burner” that works to simply increase the number of calories you burn throughout the day. But the real kicker? You aren’t required to perform any additional physical activity. #saywhat?!
It’s true. The idea behind Burn Evolved is that it temporarily speeds up your metabolism and tricks your body into using your fat stores for energy, rather than the carbs in your bloodstream. That way, when you sweat it off at the gym, you’ll be burning off fats in your lower belly, legs or any other chunky areas you’d like resized.
The brand also claims that it’s “common to experience slightly enhanced metal clarity and slightly suppressed appetite” when taking Burn Evolved. This sounds good in theory, but the claims aren’t backed up by any specific research or data, so we’ve no choice but to point out that this is a little sus. 😒😒😒
This is a dietary supplement for adults, and adults are advised to take a dosage of up to 2 capsules per day. That said, the brand advises you to start out taking 1 capsule in the morning to “assess your tolerance”. No further details are disclosed as to any anticipated side effects which justify such caution, so there is definitely some uncertainty with consuming this product. That said, this risk can (and should) be mitigated by consulting with a doctor or medical provider prior to consumption. 👌👌
Each bottle rings in at $67, but is discounted to $41 if you opt for the “auto-refill” option. The brand also offers a 100% money-back guarantee if you are for any reason unhappy with the supplement.
Test Boost Max
Another key supplement formulated by V Shred for men is Test Boost Max, an “all-natural blend of high quality ingredients that work with the body to enhance your natural secretion of testosterone”. With just 1 serving per day, the brand claims that you can build more muscle without lifting more, and burn more fat without doing more cardio.
The brand is also aggressively confident in this product, calling it the “Fountain of Youth” for men, even providing a 100% money-back guarantee on a “No Questions Asked basis”. But buyers beware, not much else is said on how to avail yourself of this refund process, so it’s unclear exactly how genuine this guarantee is. 🧐🤨
At this point, we think it prudent to remind our readers that the brand’s claims for each of their supplements have not been evaluated with the Food and Drug Administration. This isn’t technically required for dietary supplements, in any case, so it may be wise to consult your healthcare professional prior to consuming these products.
What if I end up not liking V Shred?
Now, it’s no secret that finding a health regime that works specifically for you isn’t necessarily something that one can find overnight. It often takes tons of trial and error, and even in an in-person setting, it’s not common to find customers feeling mismatched with dieticians or gym trainers. Much less a plan received through an app or online, or through a virtual coach behind the computer screen, as with V Shred’s case.
For this reason, we think it is particularly crucial to evaluate if the brand has a transparent, trustworthy and genuine refund and returns policy. If so, customers can get their feet wet with confidence that they aren’t going to be out of pocket if the products don’t work for them. 😬
With that, we note that V Shred claims to offer a 30-day 100% money back guarantee policy. Not only is that signposted on the front page of V Shred’s website, it is also rehashed boldly on each of the program and supplement feature pages. With this in mind, you’d expect the company to offer its customers a step-by-step overview on how exactly this guarantee would work.
However, in our experience, we’ve been left rather dissatisfied with the company’s transparency on how their refund policy works. You don’t find sufficient details on this on the product pages, and it’s only when (or if) a customer dives into the fine print of the terms and conditions on the website that the refund policy is made clear. 😫😫😫
We won’t attempt to rehash the full policy here, save to highlight that not all that glitters is gold.
The truth is, there are convoluted return policies which differ between digital products and in-app purchases – and even then, there are some exceptional products that are absolutely non-refundable (eg: the Custom Diet & Training Programs and 30-day Challenge Purchases). In addition, the brand has reserved the sole and absolute discretion to grant a partial refund, instead of a full refund, if they deem appropriate. 😡😡😡
The refund process also isn’t particularly clear: Customers requesting a refund are asked to simply send an email to their Customer Service line, but it isn’t quite clear what details are to be provided in requesting such a refund. 🥵
All that to say, just bear in mind that V Shred hasn’t exactly done all it can to give its customers full confidence in the refunds process. Approach with caution, and don’t rely too heavily on being able to claim a 100% refund if the products turn out to not suit your liking!
What other customers are saying
As we’ve mentioned above, the fact that V Shred is a customisable service makes it all the more important that we take a close look at customers’ individual experiences with the product. Bearing in mind that the website hasn’t necessarily been all that informative (eg: we aren’t sure what the diet and workout plans will specifically entail, and the refund policy is less than transparent as we’ve discussed above).
And to truly get a real flavor of what the word on the street is, we’ve scoured different sources of reviews, both from V-Shred’s website as well as independent sources including the Better Business Bureau (BBB), the Apple Store and Trust Pilot. 💯
At a high level, we’ve observed that while there are tons of customers that are full of praise for V Shred’s offering, there is also significant traction behind a growing concern that V Shred offers nothing more than a scam service. We discuss some of the pros and cons of the brands, based on customer reviews, below:
The Pros
Firstly, V Shred’s website features a ton of before and after pics, many of which are supported by body stats showing a tangible improvement, whether in the way of weight loss, muscle gain or any other fitness goal. These are likewise echoed on the brand’s social media platforms, which have gained tremendous traction as we’ve mentioned above. 🚀🚀🚀
Customers have even praised the detailed food plans and long-lasting results of V Shred’s diet and workout plans. One customer (@isaacnavejas) posted:
“Thanks for the inspiration bro. I bought your 90 day plan and I’m really grateful for how you have thoughtfully considered the layout of the workout plans, meal plans, macros, website, ebook, videos etc. With a little focus it’s easy to understand and implement. There’s a bunch of plans out there and people that try and do what you’re doing but, for my given circumstances, I felt nobody made it as use friendly as you have made it. Prior to today I had been working out consistently for about 7 weeks on my own routine. Today was my first day on your plan and I got my butt kicked on those supersets. Looking forward to it. Much appreciated @vin_sant.”
In addition, V Shred has earned accreditation with the Better Business Bureau with an A- rating, which doesn’t seem bad at all! However, the brand has somehow garnered 99 negative reviews which has given them a 2.2 out of 5 star rating on BBB, and we’ll discuss these concerns below. 😢😢
The Cons
On the other hand, there is much to raise by way of concerns about V Shred.
Firstly, the lack of transparency with the brand. Many customers have complained about the brand’s failure to properly explain its pricing and charges, resulting in customers paying more than expected, for instance, in being charged for an optional element of a product that they didn’t opt in for. 😖
To make matters worse, as and where problems arise, customers aren’t given a proper avenue to resolve them satisfactorily. Customers have complained of poor and unresponsive customer service, which is an absolute recipe for disaster considering the aforesaid problems with overcharging. 🤬🤬
For instance, one particular customer claimed that he had tried calling the customer service “with no luck”, and that the company’s “selling practices are very deceptive”.
All this to say: While V Shred offers what appears to be a vastly popular service, there have been tons of concerns raised by well-meaning customers who have found V-Shred’s business practices to be somewhat less than ideal.
Our final verdict on V Shred
Ultimately, our take on V Shred is as follows: Approach with caution. The brand has made some very bold claims, many of which are universally enticing (at least at first). But the old adage holds true – things that seem too good to be true often are. ☹️
With so many things getting digitalised today, e-fitness is no exception. However, there is something to be said about the human touch in a healthy lifestyle when you literally place your health and wellbeing in the hands of another. It’s that trust and partnership which makes the journey both sustainable and genuine. 🥲
Having a brand provide this service behind a screen doesn’t necessarily allow trust to be built organically, which is why we’re also seeing this problem manifest in the form of customer complaints about lack of transparency.
Ultimately, an examination of intention is required here. Investing in the product requires a genuine commitment on your part to improving your health. V Shred alone will not be a silver bullet – at least not in the way they seem to claim to be so easily.
On a final note, if you’re keen to give V Shred a go, we recommend the lowest-risk option of a 1 month trial of V Shred University for just $1, which gives you the lowest possible risk exposure, yet allows you to have a bona fide shot at V Shred. Happy healthing! 💪
