Our Supergoop! Review

Our Supergoop! ReviewPin

The sun sucks. I used to love the sun but now I hate it because it just wants to kill everything. I always tell everyone, if you don’t want to do skincare, fine but at least put sunscreen on. The reason why we have little freckles, skin cancer, and wrinkles is because of the sun – Amber Liu

While we completely agree with Amber Liu’s overwhelming desire to see everyone pay a little more attention to their health and well-being and make sunscreen a part of their daily routine, we also enjoy spending as much time in the sun as we can.

We like the heat, we like to feel the first rays of sunrise, the day getting gradually warmer and we love to watch the sun finally dip under the horizon, at the end of another long day.

And we’re not alone, as hundreds of thousands of other Americans love to spend their free time venturing out into the world while the sun is in the sky, which is almost certainly why the incidents of skin cancer among the adult population are rising faster than they ever have, and why it’s more important than it’s ever been to start wearing sunscreen every single day and to start thinking about the harm that the big yellow ball in the sky can inflict on every one of us we don’t do everything that we can to protect ourselves from it.

It isn’t difficult to stay safe and do everything you can to significantly reduce the risk of developing skin cancer without having to drastically change your sun-loving lifestyle.

All you need is the right sunscreen, and that’s why Supergoop! should be the first name you think about when you’re ready to suit up and protect yourself from the sun.

Despite the fact that their name suggests otherwise, Supergoop! don’t subscribe to the same, tired old runny, and greasy philosophy that a lot of sunscreens subscribe to, they’re all about making it easy to apply the protection that you’ll need all day long and looking good while you’re wearing it.

Super Who?

If you’re thinking “Super who?”, then it’s time to tune in and read on, because Supergoop! has taken the sun-loving world by storm and as well as having amassed nearly half a million followers on Instagram and winning the Allure Best of Beauty Award in two thousand and eighteen, they’ve also been featured in pages of Marie Clair which brought them to the attention of a legion of new Goop fans and devotees.

Supergoop develops skin, makeup, and body products containing SPF. Their main focus is to stop the epidemic of skin cancer through the use of specialized sunscreen formulas.

With over 370,000 Instagram followers, Supergoop! has found a new army of followers thanks to appearing in media publications like PopSugar, Marie Claire, and InStyle! Magazine.

As their star is shining brightly and doesn’t show any signs of dimming, we thought it was the right time to take a much closer and in-depth look at Supergoop! in order to find out who they are, what they do, and if their products really are as good as they, and their dedication customers say they are.

So come with us, as it’s time to find out whether the best way to armor yourself against the worst that the sun has to offer is with a little help from Supergoop!…

Why you should trust us?

Our team has spent over 15 hours extensively testing and researching the best wellness products, including Supergoop! Our goal is to find the best brands who care about your well-being and help people live better lives. We evaluate beauty products based on their quality, effectiveness and customer support.

We often ask ourselves a simple question: would we buy the product for ourselves and recommend it to our family and friends? This review is medically reviewed and thoroughly vetted by Zoey Low, our in-house dermatologist, wellness expert and product tester herself!

The Supergoop! Story

Supergoop! wasn’t founded by a business-savvy entrepreneur to make a fortune, it was started by a Texas schoolteacher who wanted to protect the children she taught from the sun in the aftermath of a friend’s skin cancer diagnosis.

Holly Thaggard made her sunscreen to try and ensure that she was doing everything that she could to keep the kids in her care safe from the sun, and used to bring tubs of her shielding lotion to school with her so that the pupils could put it on and continue to live their lives the way they always had without their parents or teachers having to worry about them.

That was in two thousand and seven and in the brief fourteen years since she first came up with the idea, Holly’s company has grown beyond her wildest dreams.

After she helped to create and introduce the Ounce By Ounce program that donated SPF products to schoolchildren all over Supergoop!’s home state (and still their base of operation) of Texas and educated them in their usage, the parents became more and interested in the product, and word of mouth quickly spread about the little Lonestar State brand that wanted, and made it their mission to change the way that people all over the world thought, and think, about the sun and skincare.

Why Choose Supergoop?

Nearly one in five Americans will develop skin cancer at some point during their lifetime, but that statistic doesn’t have to be a constant, as unlike a lot of their cancers, skin cancer can be prevented by using the right sunscreen and SPF products.

And to make sure that they always stay one step ahead of the sun, Supergoop continually invests in newer and better game-changing formulas for their product.

They’re also a cruelty-free (and always have been) reef-safe company that doesn’t use any of the sixteen hundred-plus environmentally harmful ingredients in their products that other sunscreen companies do. Supergoop! doesn’t just want to keep you safe, they want to protect and save the planet too.

Weighing The Supergoop Scales

When we were growing up we were always taught that if something seems like it’s good to be true, then it probably is.

That’s why we left no stone uncovered when we started taking a much closer look at Supergoop! in an attempt to find out if they did have any skeletons in their SPF friendly closet and whether or not they were as customer conscious and dedicated to their cause as they claim to be.

The truth was surprisingly shocking and bolstered our faith in human nature, as Supergoop! is still completely committed to the same principles that drove its founder Holly Thaggard to start making SPF products.

The Supergoop! Good News

The harder we looked, the more good news we uncovered and discovered about Supergoop! All of their products have a minimum SPF of 30, and none of them use parabens or any other known harmful or dangerous ingredients.

And everything that they manufacture wears the Leaping Bunny logo, the only internationally recognized and accepted sign that a company is one hundred percent cruelty-free and that none of its products are tested on animals.

We searched high and low for any unduly negative customer reviews, and while we stumbled across the odd disgruntled consumer, for the most part, everyone who cared to comment about their product, seemed to love Supergoop!

Any company with that many happy customers has to be doing something right, and given the evidence, it seems as though Supergoop! is doing everything right.

Remember when we mentioned that Holly Thaggard used her platform as a way to donate SPF products to schools in Texas and educated children about their usage?

Well, Supergoop! still does that, and they still send out SPF products to elementary schools all over the Lonestar State. Almost everything that they create and manufacture is made in America, which makes them a rarity in the cut and thrust world of the beauty business.

And, yes there’s more, as well as offering flexible payment terms, Supergoop! also runs their own, easy-to-use subscription service which, if you sign up to it, ensures that you’ll never run out of sunscreen or any other SPF products they make, ever again.

The Not So Good Supergoop! News

While it isn’t world-shattering or paradigm-altering, there is some bad news that might cause you to think twice about using any of Supergoop!’s SPF range.

All of their cutting-edge research and their dedication to creating animal and reef-friendly SPF products that really make a difference comes at a cost, and anything wearing the Supergoop! name is, when compared to other SPF brands, reassuringly expensive.

The other discouraging news is that they don’t ship any of their products outside of the United States, so if you’re living or working abroad and want to protect yourself from the sun the Supergoop! way you’ll have to purchase their products from a third-party supplier like Amazon.

Getting To Grips With Supergoop!

The easiest way to get to know a brand is by familiarising yourself with and getting to know their products, and so that’s what we did. We focused on six of their best-selling and most popular products and we were, without fail, astonished by each and every one of them.

Supergoop! Unseen Sunscreen (SPF 40)

Supergoop! Unseen Sunscreen (SPF 40)Pin

The single biggest selling sunscreen that Supergoop! produces is their Unseen, oil-free cream that has an SPF (Sun Protection Factor) factor of 40.

Completely weightless, scentless, and invisible, it’s been designed to be used with all skin types and tones and is antioxidant-rich.

While it can be used as a complete body sunscreen, it was specifically created to be used on your face, and you can apply foundation and make-up over it without having to worry that you might minimize or alter the protection that it’ll give you.

Made from clean powerful ingredients, such as meadowfoam and frankincense it nourishes and enriches your skin while protecting it from UVA and UVB rays (both forms of UltraViolet light that the sun emits), IRA (Infrared) rays, and Bluelight, the skin-damaging light that computers and smartphones emit.

It’s also friendly to beards and soaks straight into them, so there’s absolutely no reason why men can’t adopt and use it as part of their daily skincare routine too. It’s an all-purpose, all-person sunscreen that’ll keep you safe from the sun all day long.

Supergoop! Everyday Play (SPF 50)

Supergoop! Everyday Play (SPF 50)Pin

Supergoop! knows and understands that sometimes when you want to be protected from the full force of the suns rays, all you need is a high SPF (Sun Protection Factor) that’ll keep you safe all day, from the moment that you apply to until you turn in for the night and climb into bed.

And that’s exactly what Everyday Play does. Its SPF helps to prevent any damage that UVA, UVB, and IRA rays might cause while you’re outside and keeps you safe from any Bluelight damage that might occur while you’re sat behind your desk or surfing the net on your smartphone.

It uses a non-comedogenic formula that allows it to soak into your skin while still letting it breathe, and the citrus and basil extract that it’s imbued with eliminate the usual sunscreen “smell” and leave you feeling refreshed regardless of what you do while you’re wearing it.

And if that wasn’t enough, it also contains sunflower and Rosemary leaf extracts to enhance and moisturize your skin. Which makes Everyday Play pretty much essential if you want to enjoy the everyday sunshine.

Supergoop! Mattescreen (SPF 40 Sunscreen)

If you want to look good, and feel good at the same time and adopt the sort of skincare regime that Hollywood stars swear by, then Supergoop!’s mattescreen might just be the sunscreen that you’ve been looking for.

Its one hundred percent mineral formula helps to leave your skin looking flawless, by making it appear poreless.

The translucent tint that’s part of the sunscreen eliminates any of the usual white traces that usually accompany mineral formulas, which makes it suitable for all skin tones and shades, and its plant-powered antioxidants help to protect your skin from free radicals while allowing it to be easily absorbed.

And its plant-powered protection doesn’t stop there, as it also induces butterfly bush extract to prevent any UVA, UVB, and IRA ray damage and keeps you safe from the harmful effects of Bluelight while you’re working on your laptop.

Supergoop! Glowscreen (SPF 40 Sunscreen)

This broad-spectrum sunscreen is a sheer liquid, which means that as soon as it’s applied it’ll give your face a pearlescence which will make your skin seem flawless while protecting you from the harshest and mildest of the suns UVA, UVB, and IRA rays.

And when you venture indoors and go back to work? It’ll protect you from all of the Bluelight that your smartphone and laptop can, and will, hurl at your skin.

But, it also has a super-secret weapon in its arsenal. As well as keeping your skin safe from the sun, it also doubles up as a make-up gripping primer, while its sea lavender supports long-lasting hydration, and makes sure that your skin is moisturized as well as being armored against the outside world.

Supergoop! Glow Stick (SPF 50)

When you need easy, mobile, simple to carry, and use protection from the sun while you’re on the go, this dry-oil sunscreen roller stick is the perfect answer.

It’s made to be used on your face, shoulders, neck, and arms, and all you have to do is twist off the top and apply it the same way you would if you were using a deodorant stick.

The Amazonian oils that protect you from the sun with an astonishingly high SPF (Sun Protection Factor) factor of 50, also make sure that your skin feels hydrated, fresh, and refreshed whenever you break it out and roll on.

If you want to be certain that you’re always safe from the worst that the sun can serve up, if you leave home equipped with a Supergoop” Glow Stick, you’ll never have to worry about UVB, UVA, and IRA rays again.

Supergoop! Bright-Eyed Mineral Eye Cream (SPF 40)

For those moments when the night before and the stress and strain of everyday life start to etch their patterns under your eyes and make them look puffy and creates the kind of dark circles that make you look tired and haggard, there’s Bright-Eyed mineral eye cream.

Lightweight, fast-absorbing, and luxurious, it uses South African resurrection plant and wild Butterfly ginger flower to dispel your skin circles and puffiness and leave you feeling refreshed and ready to face the world.

And, like all Supergoop! products this eye cream’s SPF factor will bat away and stave off all of the UVA, UVB, and IRA rays that the sun can throw at you and all of the Bluelight that your laptop and smartphone insist on beaming toward you.

Sometimes, your eyes and face need a little extra protection and Bright-Eyed provides it and proves there’s far more to Supergoop! than sunscreen.

The Supergoop! Subscription Service

Supergoop! has covered all the bases and made sure that they accounted for every possible SPF and sunscreen-related problem, and because they know how insanely busy life can be, they’ve created their own subscription service so that you don’t have to remember to order new sunscreen, Supergoop! will do it for you.

It’s simple and straightforward to use. You just visit their site, hit the subscription link and you’ll be taken through to the SPF page.

All you need to do is choose the SPF product that you want (which, thanks to the quick “quiz” that you can take before making an order, you’ll know the answer to) and how much of it you’ll require and how frequently, fill in your billing and mailing details, and Supergoop! will do the rest.

They even take postage off the table and cover the costs of mailing each and every package to you themselves, and they won’t even bill you until your latest order is due to be sent out.

The only drawback to the service that we can see is that if you’re not completely honest, and add a little too much, and don’t judge how often you’ll need new SPF products, you could end up with more Supergoop! then you’ll need.

If that does happen, you can easily adjust the frequency and amount of your order by logging into your account and making the necessary adjustments.

And if you do want to cancel your subscription, that’s easy too. Just log in and cancel it. Although, if we’re honest, why you’d want to cancel is beyond us, as we’ve been using the service for the last couple of months, and it’s encouraged us to do exactly what it was supposed to.

It’s made sure that we include sunscreen as part of our daily skincare routine and that we never leave the house without applying it. It’s simple, effective, and easy to use. What more could you ask for?

Supergoop! – The Word On The Street

Brands sink or swim according to how satisfied their customers are with the service that they receive and how well their products do what they say they’re going to. That being said, Supergoop! Are one of the rare examples of business that seems to get almost everything right.

Almost all of their users were more than satisfied with their product, a fact that’s backed up by the glowing testimonials that their happy customers have left on Amazon and their companies own site.

Any of their customers who have, for one reason or another, felt that they had no other option but to contact Supergoop! have stated (again the evidence is in the reviews that were left on the aforementioned sites) that their complaints were taken seriously, dealt with in a timely manner and that they were pleased with the outcome.

We thought that we might find fault with their customer service team, but we were tripped up and foiled again, not that we mind, as it’s always a pleasure to discover a brand that believes that their products and customers are more important than their profits are.

There were, however, a number of reviews that were slightly more critical of the company, Some customers complained that the Unseen sunscreen while soaking in effectively and providing all of the protection that it should, felt a little oily when they first applied it, which is the antithesis of what it’s supposed to be.

A vocal minority also claimed that the newer formulas that Supergoop! is now using aren’t as effective as their old ones used to be. It seems that even a brand as dedicated to what they do as Supergoop! are, isn’t immune to criticism.

What Other Customers Are Saying

Supergoop has an average five stars rating on Amazon and this is what some of their customers had to say:

“Highly recommended and definitely worth it” – Fran

“It may be pricey, but a little goes a long way and it lasted me a couple of months” – Gavin’s Mom

Is Supergoop! Worth It?

The bottom line is, that’s a question that you’ll have to answer for yourself after you’ve used, and tried their products.

However, in our opinion, the service that they provide and the products that they make are absolutely worth every single cent that you’ll pay for them. Why? Well, we’re glad you asked and we’ll happily tell you.

After using their Unseen sunscreen for a month, we were so impressed with it that we decided to sign up for the subscription service, for a bi-monthly delivery.

So far, we’ve had three orders that were all dispatched on time, arrived without a problem and we were billed for them when we expected to be billed. It’s a hassle-free way to maintain your supply of SPF products.

However, the thing that we love the most, and that initially made us want to be part of the Supergoop! family was their ethical stance and approach to business.

They haven’t forgotten their roots, and still, send out free SPF products to elementary schools all over Texas and are fully committed to ensuring that none of their products are tested on, nor will they ever be tested on animals and believe in saving the planet as much as they want to prevent, and do what they can to reducing the amount of American, and worldwide, lives that are lost to skin cancer every single year.

Sure, all of their SPF products are a little more expensive, but it’s a price that we’re willing to pay to be part of the Supergoop! tribe.
