Urban spaces are getting busier and, as such, more and more people are finding it difficult to find a home with a garden. This doesn’t mean that plants are off the table, though.

In fact, over the past few years, there has been a huge increase in demand for houseplants as the fashion of indoor gardening has boomed.

A little indoor gardening is also an excellent way to practice self care and bring an overall feeling of wellness into your home.

One company at the forefront of this movement is Bloomscape. Shipping plants straight to your front door, Bloomscape is making it easier for you to ‘green up’ your home and find some of the world’s most exotic-looking houseplants.

But is the quality of Bloomscape’s plants any good? And what do people that have bought from them really think? We decided to find out!

Below, you’ll find our in-depth review of Bloomscape. Here, you’ll learn everything you need to know before you place an order, and you’ll find out whether or not this is the right houseplant company for your home.

What is Bloomscape?

Our Bloomscape ReviewPin
@bloomscape

To put it simply, Bloomscape is an online houseplant supplier with a huge catalog of high-quality plants to choose from. These plants are shipped directly to your front door after being carefully packaged.

You might be wondering why a company like Bloomscape exists. After all, you can always just go to your local grocery store or nursery and pick up a few plants from there. Well, there are a couple of reasons why you might want to use Bloomscape instead.

First of all, Bloomscape is a family-run business that has stemmed from five generations of growers.

These guys really know their stuff, so you’ll be able to rest assured that the plant you’re getting is of the best quality possible, whereas a supermarket plant will likely have been picked from the cheapest source possible.

Secondly, Bloomscape has an extensive collection of really interesting houseplants. Some of these you may not be able to find easily in stores, so you’re able to grow a unique collection with ease.

For these reasons and more (which we’ll get into a little later on), Bloomscape is fast becoming one of the most reputable online plant companies.

It has amassed over 143,000 followers on Instagram and has been featured in several publications including Refinery 29, The Manual, and Dwell.

How we tested Bloomscape

I am a self-proclaimed plant person, so when the opportunity to test out Bloomscape came up, I needed no convincing whatsoever. What’s better than welcoming a new plant into your home? Nothing, in my book! 😋😋😋

The website was super easy to navigate and made me fall in love with every single plant on there – it’s a wonder I didn’t buy them all!

Showing a little restraint, I purchased the Full Room Set (Mid/High Light). I live in an apartment with a south-facing window, so get plenty of light during the day.

Here are the plants I got in my bundle:

  • English Ivy
  • Hedgehog Aloe
  • Bromeliad Pineapple
  • Ponytail Palm Tree
  • Stromanthe Triostar
  • Sansevieria
  • Bird of Paradise

The price was a little eye watering, but you do get pots with all of these plants as well. 🤑 I liked the fact that I got to choose the pot colors for each individual plant instead of having to have all of the pots the same color!

I was a little skeptical about how they were planning to ship seven large plants to me without any of them becoming damaged, but I was pleasantly surprised when they showed up at my doorstep.

I purchased standard shipping and they arrived at my house within 6 days. Standard shipping says 2-5 days in transit, so I was worried about the condition of the plants when I got them.😓😓

With that being said, all of the plants were packaged in secure wrapping in a box plastered with fragile notices.

The plants were in great condition. The soil was a little dry, but nothing that a quick watering couldn’t fix as soon as they were out of their packaging and into their pots.

There were no brown leaves, no bugs or termites I could see, and they all looked in great health!😍😍😍 Even the Stromanthe Triostar held up well, which I was surprised at considering how finicky they tend to be.

The new pots were lovely. I chose a mixture of Clay, White, and Indigo, and they all complemented each other beautifully. Not only that, but they really made the plant’s leaves pop in the sunlight.

They also felt expensive and durable – not like some other free pots I’ve got in the past with plants that are nothing more than flimsy plastic. These are thick plant pots that even come with water trays too! 🥳

Bloomscape plants

As we’ve mentioned above, Bloomscape has a large catalog of plants that you can choose from. It also breaks them down into different categories to help you find the best plants for your home including lighting conditions, pet-friendly, and air purifying.

To give you a better idea of exactly what type of plants you can choose from, we’ll take a look at some of Bloomscape’s most popular options.

We’ll also share with you some of the care advice that you’ll receive with each of them to give you a feel for the sort of service you can expect.

Philodendron heartleaf

Philodendron HeartleafPin
@bloomscape

This is one of the most popular plants on Bloomscape’s website. It has a trailing habit that makes it ideal for placing on a fireplace or hanging from the ceiling.

As it grows it forms tiny grips that cling to anything they touch, and it will take up as much space as you let it.

One of the best things about the Philodendron Heartleaf is that it’s super easy to care for. It’s happy in all types of lighting positions including low light and bright, indirect light.

It also requires infrequent watering. These are the sort of care details, along with more detailed information, that you’ll receive with all Bloomscape plants.

Fiddle leaf fig

@bloomscape

If you’re looking for something unique and structural, Bloomscape’s Fiddle Leaf Fig fits the brief perfectly.

The large, distinctive leaves have an upright growth habit and they can fill a great deal of space over time. This, paired with its requirement for bright indirect sunlight, make it ideal for filling an empty corner of a room.

One of the things you’ll find out about this plant over on the Bloomscape website is that it isn’t pet friendly. However, it does purify the air by filtering and removing formaldehyde, making it ideal for urban homes.

Monstera

Monsteras are fast becoming one of the most fashionable houseplants out there. They are fast-growing, sunlight-worshipping plants. If allowed, they’ll also produce vines that will climb up walls and surfaces.

These vines and the distinctive holes in the leaves are what people find most fascinating about Monsteras. They aren’t pet-friendly, and this is explained on the Bloomscape website.

They also grow pretty tall (up to 32” in some cases), so they are ideal for adding height and interest to a room.

Peperomia ginny

Peperomia GinnyPin
@bloomscape

Peperomia Ginny is the perfect table centerpiece with its bright green leaves that are tinged with yellow and pink.

It’s also a great choice for north-facing window sills that are notoriously hard to put plants on as it’s quite happy living in low light conditions.

As with all of the plants on the Bloomscape website you’re able to find certain care requirements about the Peperomia Ginny before you buy, including the fact it’s low maintenance and is pet friendly.

These details will also accompany the plant as part of its packaging.

Sansevieria

SansevieriaPin
@bloomscape

More commonly known as the Snake Plant, Sansevierias have sharp-looking leaves that grow upright. This makes them one of the most architecturally interesting plants you can add to your collection.

As far as care is concerned, the Bloomscape website teaches you that it’s low-maintenance and that it needs low to bright indirect sunlight. You’ll also find that it’s air purifying as it can remove formaldehyde from the air, but it isn’t pet friendly.

ZZ plant

ZZ PlantPin
@bloomscape

If you’re looking for something super low maintenance, the ZZ plant is the plant for you! It’s happy in low to bright indirect sunlight, doesn’t require frequent watering, and can survive for months without any attention. This makes it perfect for anybody that is away from home for long periods of time.

The oval-shaped leaves give it a good amount of interest and its glossy-green coloring matches perfectly with the range of available pot color choices you can pair it with.

It’s also an air purifying plant but isn’t suitable for homes with pets. Left to its own devices, the ZZ plant can grow up to 33” tall.

Ponytail palm

Ponytail PalmPin
@bloomscape

It’s easy to see how the Ponytail Palm got its name. The long, hair-like leaves give it a unique appearance and its arching habit gives each leaf the appearance of being held in a ponytail.

Despite bearing the ‘palm’ name, this interesting houseplant is actually a member of the Agave family. This means that it is capable of storing loads of water and that it will clean the air in any room it’s placed in.

The care instructions you’ll receive with Bloomscape’s Ponytail Palm will tell you that it needs very little watering, that it adores bright sunlight, and that it’s totally pet friendly.

Bromeliad pineapple

Yes, you did read that correctly! This is a pineapple plant! If you’re going for a really exotic look, this is the plant to go for.

And, what’s more, you can even eat the pineapple when it’s ripe. It won’t be as big as the ones you’re used to seeing in your grocery store, but it will be just as delicious.

If you’re unsure how to look after, Bloomscape has got you covered. When this Bromeliad Pineapple arrives at your front door it will be accompanied by care instructions that tell you it likes medium light and that it’s pet friendly. It’s also a great air cleansing plant.

Bird of paradise

One of the things that might surprise you about the Bird of Paradise is that, although it has tropical leaves and flowers, it’s extremely low maintenance. It does need consistent watering and humidifying but, other than that, it’s happy to be left to its own devices in a brightly lit area.

The Bird of Paradise offers architectural interest in more than way one, as well. The leaves and flowers are large and structural, but they also bend with the light. This means that it will change its position throughout the day.

It isn’t pet friendly, which is stated on Bloomscape’s website, but it is an air cleansing plant that will filter and remove loads of toxins from your home.

Outdoor plants & bloom kits

So, we know that Bloomscape stocks loads of interesting houseplants that are perfect for anybody without any outside space.

But, if you’re lucky enough to have a balcony, porch, or patio, it might interest you to learn that Bloomscape also offers a small range of outdoor plants.

These are known as ‘Bloom Kits’ and they are essentially a pre-potted selection of various flowering plants that are ideal for bringing a pop of color to any outdoor area. Some Bloom Kit combinations include the following:

  • Purple & White Dahlia
  • Purple & White Dahlia, Pink Calibrachoa, and Coleus
  • Red & Yellow Dahlia
  • Red Geranium, Purple Calibrachoa, and Yellow Bidens
  • Yellow Begonia
  • Purple Petunia, Persian Shield, and Calibrachoa
  • Red Begonia
  • Purple Petunia
  • Pink Impatiens, Persian Shield, and Helichrysum
  • Red Geranium

As with their houseplants, Bloomscape provides all the care advice you need to keep your Bloom Kits looking happy and healthy.

They also tell you what months you can expect flowers. They’ll even let you know which ones are best for attracting pollinators such as bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds.

Comparison: Bloomscape vs The Sill

The Sill is another online plant nursery that offers lots of different types of plants and accessories. But is it better than Bloomscape? 🤔

Both companies offer a wide variety of plants, including those for low-light rooms, pet owners, beginners, and more.

The Sill does offer a fun little quiz for you to take part in to find your new plant, and we all know how much I love a quiz! 🤗🤗🤗

Two big differences between these two companies are that The Still offers both faux plants and outdoor plants, which Bloomscape does not.

Bloomscape does seem cheaper, with a ZZ plant costing $69 while The Sill offers the same plant for $88, at a smaller size. 😎

With that being said, The Sill does offer free shipping on most of its plants.

The Sill doesn’t seem to offer any bundles, which is a shame for beginners looking to get a haul of plants. Bloomscape, on the other hand, does offer a number of bundles ranging from two to seven plants, which come with fun savings. 🌱🌱🌱

Overall, Bloomscape offers great indoor plants for a cheaper price than The Sill. Unless you’re looking for fake or outdoor plants, we’d opt for Bloomscape.

What other customers are saying

MonsteraPin
@bloomscape

As with all online retailers, there are mixed reviews about Bloomscape. However, for the most part, the reviews are positive. Customers have spoken about the quality of the plants and the care items and loved the fact that they all come with a 30-day guarantee.

One review found on Reddit reads “I got a tabletop Norfolk pine from there and it was nothing but stellar.”

Another thing that customers really like about Bloomscape is the fact that they use environmentally friendly packaging.

The pots that the plants come in are made from 80% recycled materials and all of their packaging is plastic-free. This gives you an excellent sense of well-being!

Another review found on Reddit mentions this fact: “The site, helpful tips pamphlet that came with the plant, recycled pot and beautiful plant, which is about 15 inches tall, made for a winning combination.”

Some plants even come in biodegradable paper pots, so you can plant them directly into a larger container without any waste. You also don’t have to worry about disturbing the roots, so your plant won’t go into transplant shock.

The amount of care advice offered with each plant and online is also something that previous Bloomscape customers found extremely helpful.

This was especially true for first-time plant owners who had little-to-no idea about where to place their plants or how frequently they needed watering.

Of course, there are a few negative reviews as well. The majority of these picked up on two subjects; delivery times and packaging. Some people found that their delivery times were delayed but this was mostly during busier times of the year, such as the holiday season.

As far as the bad reviews for packaging are concerned, we can only assume that this was due to mishandling by the courier company.

Given that most previous Bloomscape customers were more than happy with the way their plants were packaged, it’s hard to believe that a few slipped through the cracks.
